PROGRAMME CONTENT:

The course content consists of a Unit Standard structure, and includes the following assessment criteria:

​

  • Academic English language skills are required to understand extended, complex oral academic texts on a wide range of topics

  • Academic English language skills are required to engage in extended spoken academic discourse on a wide range of topics

  • Academic English language skills are required to understand extended, complex written academic texts on a wide range of topics

  • Academic English language skills are required to write well-structured, sophisticated, extended academic texts on a wide range of topics.

 
DURATION & HOURS:
In-class delivery:

Course Duration: 18 weeks (including 2-week break)

Class hours: 9:00 am to 2:30 pm Monday to Thursday

Online delivery:

Course Duration: 18 weeks (including 2-week break)

Class Hours: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm (Online – NZST), Monday to Friday.

Onshore International Students: International students residing in New Zealand required to attend the programme via Face-to-Face delivery and must have a valid visa and appropriate medical insurance to enrol in this programme.

​

Offshore International Students: International students studying offshore (outside New Zealand) must attend scheduled live online classes and are not required to hold a New Zealand visa or medical insurance for this programme.

EDUCATION PATHWAY:

 

This will allow a direct pathway in terms of the language requirements
for the following tertiary providers: Skill New Zealand, AUT University,
and Whitecliffe*.

​

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

​

  • Domestic Students must be at least 16 years of age at the time of enrolment and start date of the programme.

  • International students must be at least 18 years of age at the time of enrolment and start date of the programme. AND

  • Produce evidence of proficiency in English equivalent to a Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B2 Intermediate level.

  • English Language Entry IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5.

  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18).

  • Cambridge English Qualifications B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill.

  • OET Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests.

  • NZCEL Level 4 (Academic).

  • Or Complete Skill NZ Placement Test​.
